Two goals in the opening 15 minutes from Hugo Almeida led AEK to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Xanthi in the SuperLeague opener. Mantalos and Didac also scored for the Enosi.
AEK's SuperLeague season got off to a great start when only 7 minutes into the game, Hugo Almeida gave AEK the 1-0 lead from close range. Three minutes later, Patito played provider again, this time finding Mantalos who headed the ball past Zivkovic to double AEK's advantage. With the early lead, the hosts "forgot" to play defense and Xanthi got back into the game with Younes' goal. However, minutes later Hugo Almeida once again found the back of the net with an impressive 30 meter strike, regaining AEK's two goal lead. The Kitrinomavri were on form on all fronts and took their lead into at the break.
At the beginning of the second half, AEK came close to a fourth but Mantalos' header was stopped by the woodwork. Chygrynskyy, who was phenomenal in the back, had a chance to score with Zivkovic keeping the score at 3-1. Didac was subbed on for Almeida and the Portuguese striker was given a standing ovation from the home supporters in his first official appearance for the club. The substitute, Didac put the game away with 14 minutes remaining, when Vargas' "tsaf" turned into an assist for Didac who scored AEK's fourth goal on the night.
Next weekend, AEK will travel to Veria while Xanthi will host Panionios.
