- Doxa Lefkadas Gets Ticket to Greek A1 Basket League -
Doxa Lefkadas will replace Kifisia for the upcoming Greek A1 Basket League season. The Licensing Committee chose Doxa Lefkadas out of 6 teams which included, Irakleio, Panionios, Kavala, Iraklis, and Arkadikos.
It is a historic day for Doxa Lefkadas B.C.! For the first time in their club’s history they will play in the Greek First Division, the A1 Basket League. Due to financial troubles, Kifisia withdrew from this year's Greek A1 Basket League and the Licensing Committee of the Federation was left to choose which team will replace Kifisia for the upcoming season. The 6 teams included Arkadikos, Kavala, Panionios, Iraklis, and the two favorites Doxa Lefkadas and Irakleio.
According to gazzetta,gr, due to the geographic location of Doxa Lefkadas the team from the Eptanisa was given the “golden” ticket to the A1 Basket League. Irakleio was also a heavy contender but had a disadvantage as a Cretan team already plays in the First Division (Rethymno). Doxa Lefkadas won the close vote 3-2.
The First Division “new boys” will now urgently prepare for the upcoming season as they have very tough matchups ahead. They will host PAOK on October 8th for the first round, and will then play at home to both Greek “giants” Olympiacos and Panathinaikos for the 3rd and 5th rounds, respectively.
