- Kerkyra GIFTS Levadiakos 3 Points -
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 5
|Levadiakos||2 - 1||Kerkyra|
Two defensive mistakes from Kerkyra gave Levadiakos their first victory of the season, 2-1 in Livadeia. After scoring a goal late in the game, Kerkyra was unlucky not to come away with a point from tonight's match.
Kerkyra was the better side early on, but fell behind by two goals after two tragic defensive mistakes in the 20th and 30th minutes. Veneti played the back pass to Koutzavasili, but Kerkyra’s keeper tripped over his own feet, leaving Silva with an easy task to tap the ball into the open net. Ten minutes later, Silva’s pass was played behind the defense and a miscommunication between Koutzavasili and Dimitrovski led to Dimitrowski’s clearance to fall into the path of Mantzios, who made no mistake from a difficult position, giving the hosts the two goal lead. After falling behind, Kerkyra once again went on the attack but could not find a goal before the break after Thuram wasted two chances.
In the second half, Levadiakos gave space to Kerkyra as the hosts created two chances through Giakoumakis on the counter attack. Kerkyra, who had most of the possession in the half, wasted many chances to pull one back before Arnarellis scored in the 89th minute to cut Levadiakos' lead in half. The goal gave hope to Kerkyra as they pressed on for an equalizer in stoppage time. The visitors came extremely close to the late comeback, but in the final chance of the game, Thuram’s free kick was denied by the crossbar. The final whistle came with a sigh of relief for the hosts as they earned their first victory of the season.
With today's win, Levadiakos moves to four points while Kerkyra remains with three points. Next week both teams will play at home with Levadiakos hosting Larissa and Kerkyra hosting PAS Giannina.
