- GOLD Medal & World Record for Konstantinidis, Bronze for Zisidis -
Greece is celebrating their first medals (including GOLD) at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games! Thanasis Konstantinidis set the World Record to win GOLD in the Men’s Shot Put F32 event while Dimitris Zisidis won BRONZE in the same competition!
The Greek athlete was one of the favorites to earn a medal in Rio and he did just that. Thanasis Konstantinidis set the world record THREE times in the Men’s Shot Put (Category F32) event with his throws at 10.09 meters and 10.15 meters before his best effort at 10.39 meters. His attempt at 10.39 meters is the new world record giving him the GOLD medal, the first for Greece at these Paralympic Games.
In the same competition, Dimitris Zisidis joined Konstantinidis on the podium earning the bronze medal. His best throw was registered at 9.24 meters. Zisidis was denied the silver medal by Bahlaz from Algeria, who surpassed Zisidis on his final throw.
