-- A Start to 2017 With the ARIS-tero --
GREEK FOOTBALL LEAGUE - MATCHDAY 8
|Kallithea||2 - 0||Aris|
|Tsipras 66', 77'|
Aris began the new year with the “left foot” as they fell to Kallithea 2-0 on the road in the 8th matchday of the Greek Football League. Both goals were scored in the second half through Andreas Tsipras while Aris was denied twice by the woodwork.
Aris was the better side in the first half, however Kallithea’s goalkeeper Stavrinos and the woodwork (Milunovic’s effort) denied the visitors an opener. In the second half, Milunovic was once again unlucky as his attempt was denied by the woodwork for a second time in the match.
With Aris unable to find the breakthrough, Kallithea punished their opponents in the 66th minute when Stamatakos’ header set up Tsipras, whose shot gave the hosts the 1-0 lead. After a big chance to double their lead seconds after the goal (Dioudis made a great save), a well-organized team buildup from Kallithea gave Tsipras an easy task to score his second goal and give his side the 2-0 lead in the 77th minute. The goal secured all three points for the hosts while Aris was handed their first defeat of the season.
After today’s result, Aris continues to sit in second two points behind the leaders Lamia, who play on Wednesday. With the three points, Kallithea move out of the drop zone on six points from eight matches.
