-- XANTHI KEEP THE PRESSURE ON OLYMPIACOS--
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 11
|Xanthi||2 - 0||PAS Giannina|
Xanthi kept up their impressive form by beating PAS Giannina comfortably on Sunday to close the gap on leaders Olympiacos to 10 points in the previously postponed Matchday 11 contest.
Xanthi’s Algerian striker Karim Soltani opened the scoring after 22 minutes following a bright start by the home side, heading home from Panagiotis Triadis’ cheeky cross with the outside of his boot. Tunisian forward Hamza Younés then added a second to seal the three points two minutes from time. Chances were at a premium in the low key second half with Răzvan Lucescu’s side holding firm for another three-point haul.
The result moved Xanthi, who have benefitted from the inconsistent form shown by the likes of Panathinaikos, AEK and PAOK this season, on to 28 points in second place which has them firmly in the hunt for a runners-up spot as things stand and dreaming of European football next season.
