Kostas Mitroglou continued his spectacular start to 2017, by scoring a hat-trick in Benfica’s Portuguese Cup fixture against Leixoes. Benfica went on to comfortably defeat the second division side 6-2.
It was the Kostas Mitroglou show in the Taca de Portugal quarterfinals as the Greek striker scored a hat trick, leading Benfica to the semi-finals of the competition. With Benfica ahead 3-1, Mitroglou scored three goals in the final 30 minutes as his side recorded an emphatic 6-2 victory over second division club, Leixoes.
Mitroglou’s first goal came from the penalty spot in the 61st minute and 10 minutes later, he tapped in a rebounded goal from close range. The hat-trick was completed in the final minute of regulation when he tapped home a cross from inside the penalty area.
Mitroglou has now scored 6 times in 2017 and 17 times this season for Benfica (26 appearances. Mitroglou and Samaris both were in the Eagles Starting XI with Mitroglou playing all 90 minutes while Samaris was subbed off in the 75th minute.
