Panionios Bounce Back to Move Into Second

PANIONIOS BOUNCE BACK TO MOVE INTO SECOND

GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 17

Panionios 2 - 0 Panetolikos
Risvanis 25'
Katharios 54'

Panionios bounced back from last week’s loss to PAS Giannina to record a comfortable 2-0 home win over Panaitolikos in Nea Smyrni on Saturday – a result which saw Vladan Milojevic’s team displace Xanthi in second place behind leaders Olympiacos.

The visitors had the first sight of goal in the fourth minute when Panionios old boy Grigoris Makos headed just wide. After that early scare though, the Panthers began to dominate proceedings under the watchful gaze of Greece coach Michael Skibbe, and Spyros Risvanis side-footed the hosts in front in the 25th minute from Ben Nabouhane’s cross.

Nikos Katharios then doubled Panionios’ advantage nine minutes after half-time to end the game as a contest, and secure a three-point haul which moved the home side into second place above Xanthi.

Panionios are level on 31 points but are ahead due to their superior head-to-head record. Panaitolikos sit in 10th place, with Asteras Tripoli, on 19 points.
