-- Rentzas is Both Hero and Villain for Larissa --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 18
|Iraklis||1 - 1||Larissa|
|Rentzas (og) 43'||Rentzas 10'|
Vasilis Rentzas was the hero and villain of the piece in Larissa’s SuperLeague clash with Iraklis in Salonika on Saturday, scoring at both ends in a 1-1 draw.
An appalling pitch at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium made it difficult for the two struggling teams to play attractive football in a Matchday 18 encounter which was littered with niggly fouls and six yellow cards.
The match started brightly for Larissa who were on the front foot from the first whistle. The Vissini were soon rewarded for their attacking impetus when Rentzas opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
The Larissa full-back evaded Iraklis defender Giorgos Saramantas before beating Brazilian goalkeeper Huanderson with a clinically placed sidefooted strike.
The visitors passed up several chances to extend their lead, and were punished for their profligacy two minutes before half-time when Rentzas turned Dimitris Grontis’ cross past his own goalkeeper.
Both teams had chances to take the advantage in the second half, but neither could find a goal as the match petered out to end with a result which suits neither club in their relegation fight.
While Iraklis’ future looks pretty bleak with the basement boys on just nine points, Larissa remain unmoved in 13th just three points clear of the relegation places with 16 points.
