The Greek team earned two medals at the 2017 ΙSAF Sailing World Cup in Miami after Vasileia Karachaliou won GOLD in the Women’s Lasar Radial event and Panagiotis Mantis/Pavlos Kagialis won bronze in the Men’s 460 event.
Vasileia Karachaliou won the GOLD medal in the Laser Radial event at the Sailing World Cup in Miami on Sunday. The Greek athlete was in first place going into the medal race and claimed first once again in the final race to earn the gold medal in the competition.
In the 10 races, Karachaliou had 29 penalty points, finishing ahead of Evi van Acker of Belgium (46 penalty points) and Mathilde de Kerangat of France (69 penalty points) who received the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Greece celebrated another medal at the Sailing World Cup in Miami after Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis won bronze in the Men’s 470 event. After 10 races, the Greek duo tallied 68 penalty points and finished behind the United States (Stuart McNay/David Hughes, 58 penalty points) and Japan (Tetsuya Isozaki/Akira Takayanagi, 60 penalty points) in the overall standings.
Going into Sunday’s medal race, the Greek team were in second place, however their seventh place finish in the medal race dropped their final rank to third. Kagialis and Mantis have been in great form this year as they also won the bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
