Levadiakos suffered another blow in their bid to climb away from the relegation dogfight after slumping to a home defeat by Platanias in Monday’s SuperLeague clash.
In the final fixture of the Matchday 19 program which saw both teams finish with 10 players, the hosts, who were thumped 6-0 in midweek by AEK Athens in the Greek Cup, fell behind to Kostas Mendrinos’ early goal after just three minutes played.
Platanias had the wind in their sails and doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, with Belarus forward Mikalay Signevich the man on target.
Levadiakos’ hopes of getting back into the game were boosted by the 49th-minute dismissal of Platanias defender Giannis Stathis, who picked up two bookings, and Toni Silva duly pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.
But despite plenty of pressing throughout the second half, Levadiakos were left frustrated by their lack of cutting edge, and they were reduced to 10 men seven minutes from full-time when Zisis Karachalios received his marching orders for a second yellow card.
The result means Levadiakos remain just one place and one point above the relegation places while Platanias moved into seventh place.
