Olympiacos came back to defeat PAOK 2-3 set in Thessaloniki, marking their third win over the Dikefalos tou Vora this season. The win "secures" Olympiacos first place for the regular season in the Greek Volley League.
It was expected to be another close battle between PAOK and Olympiacos in the Greek Volley League derby in Round 15. PAOK took the first set 25-20 with Olympiacos responding in the second set 19-25 to bring the game level at 1-1. In the third set, PAOK re-gained the advantage, winning 25-19, but yet again Olympiacos came back to send the match into a tie-breaker set by comfortably (and controversially-referee errors) winning the fourth set 17-25.
In the tiebreaker set, Olympiacos was ahead 10-13 before a 3-0 run from PAOK brought the set level at 13-13. A point from each side followed (14-14) and Olympiacos celebrated the big victory by winning the final two points (14-16) to take the tie-breaker set and the match, 2-3.
Zoupanis was the leading scorer for Olympiacos with 19 points as Cupkovic and Athos Costa followed with 17 and 16 points. Starovic had a tremendous game for the hosts with 23 points, but it was not enough as PAOK fell 8 points behind the leaders, Olympiacos.
The Erythrolefki remain undefeated this season and have 45 points, five ahead of second placed Panathinaikos. With today's result, Olympiacos will likely claim first place during the regular season and have home court advantage during the playoffs.
This is Olympiacos' third win from three games over PAOK this season as Olympiacos was victorious in their meeting in league play and in last week's League Cup Final, where the Piraeus club celebrated their first title of the season.
