GREEK SOCCER CUP - QUARTER-FINALS (LEG 1)
|Panathinaikos||4 - 0||ASteras Tripolis|
Panathinaikos put on their best showing of the year, thrashing Asteras Tripolis 4-0 in the first leg of the Greek Cup quarterfinals. Reis, Klonaridis, Villafanez, and M’Poku scored for the hosts who now have eyes on the semifinals of the competition.
Panathinaikos secured their place in the semifinals of the Greek Cup after blowing out Asteras Tripolis 4-0 with a great performance in their first of two legs. The hosts wasted no time in opening the scoring as Nuno Reis’ deflected shot resulted in his first goal since joining Panathinaikos. In the 32nd minute, Klonaridis scored in his second consecutive cup fixture to give his side a 2-0 lead into the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as Villafanez made it 3-0 in the 61st minute and Panathinaikos’ best player on the night, M’poku, converted a penalty (that he won) six minutes later to give his side a 4-0 win. Asteras Tripolis finished the match with 10-men after Vitali was sent off with a second yellow card six minutes from time.
The result practically secures Panathinaikos’ place in the semi-finals of the Cup. The two teams will meet in Tripoli for the second leg in three week’s time.
