Panathinaikos defeated Bamberg 81-72 at the OAKA Nikos Galis Stadium and inched closer to a Euroleague playoff spot. Bourousis, Singleton, and James led the Prasini to victory.
Panathinaikos were able to overcome Bamberg, a team that has pulled off many surprises this season, and record an 81-72 victory over the German side. The Trifylli were in control for most of the game, however Bamberg managed to threaten the hosts at various points in the match. A third quarter performance led by Ioannis Bourousis proved to be decisive in the end as Panathinaikos increased their record in this year’s Euroleague to 13-9.
Singleton led Panathinaikos with 17 points while Bourousis, who made the difference in the third quarter, finished with 16 points (11 in the third quarter). James added 15 points while Feldene scored 16-points. Pappas had a good performance on defense as Calathes finished without any points, but with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Panathinaikos’ newest signing, Gentile, once again disappointed.
The win now has Panathinaikos as the sole team to hold 5th place in the standings after both Baskonia and Crvena Zvezda lost in today’s fixtures. The Trifylli, who have essentially clinched a playoff spot after yet another win, will now have their eyes on fourth place which leads to home court advantage during the postseason (a difficult task). Currently, Fenerbahce sit in 4th with a 14-7 record and also have the tiebreaker advantage over the Greek Cup Champions.
Panathinaikos will be the favorites to add another win to their record when they host UNICS Kazan in two week’s time in Athens.
