Olympiacos defeated Zalgiris 73-64 at the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias to increase their record to 16-6 in this year’s Euroleague as they inch closer to home court advantage for the playoffs. Printezis led the charge for Olympiacos and was named the Euroleague’s MVP of Round 22.
Olympiacos had a tough time against a resistant Zalgiris team but in the end, the Erythrolefki were able to come away with a 73-64 victory. It was a close game with just over five minutes to play as Olympiacos held a small three point lead (64-61). Important points in the final minutes from Birch, Spanoulis, and Olympiacos’ best player on the night, Printezis, gave the hosts a commanding advantage that reached double digits, proving too much for the visitors.
Printezis had a spectacular night as he finished with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds, and was named the Euroleague’s MVP for Round 22. Spanoulis was clutch once again in the final minutes finishing with 11 points and 3 assists. Lojeski played his part in the victory with 12 points.
The win moves Olympiacos’s record to 16-6, tied with CSKA Moscow for second place in the standings. The Greek Champions are well in control of claiming at minimum fourth place which leads to home court advantage in the playoffs. Fenerbahce currently hold onto fourth place with a 14-8 record while Panathinaikos sit in fifth with a 13-9 record.
