PAOK banished their Europa League disappointment on Sunday with an impressive 4-0 home victory over Northern neighbours Veria at the Toumba to move third in the SuperLeague.
The visit of struggling Veria was a welcome reprieve for Vladan Ivic’s men, who were thumped 3-0 at home in mid-week by Schalke, and it showed as two goals from Swiss striker Aleksandar Projovic and further strikes from Pedro Henrique and Dimitris Pelkas earned the three points comfortably in this Matchday 21 clash.
The result moved PAOK on to 39 points, lifting them above Panathinaikos and into third place in the process - just two points behind Panionios, while Veria have an uphill task if they are to avoid relegation.
It was an unhappy debut in the dugout for new Veria coach Rakto Dostanic. The 57-year-old Serbian was appointed on February 13 for his second spell in charge of the Northern Greek club, who are currently bottom of the table with 13 points with nine matches to play.
Dostanic will try to take heart in the fact that his team are just one point away from safety, with Levdiakos and Iraklis, the two teams above them, on 14 points.
