Zeca To Become Eligible for the National Team
Panathinaikos captain, Carlos Zeca, has almost completed the necessary steps to become eligible to play for the Greek National Team.
Carlos Zeca has expressed his interest to play for the Greek National Team with Michael Skibbe also pointing out his desire to call-up the Panathinaikos captain to the Galanolefki. The Portuguese defensive midfielder has played at Panathinaikos since 2011 and his long stay in Greece, makes him eligible for Greek citizenship.
Since November, Zeca has worked on completing the necessary steps to become "Greek" and according to the Goal newspaper, within the coming days all the necessary paperwork will be officially complete. This will make Zeca eligible for the National Team and he will await Michael Skibbe's call-up for Greece's upcoming qualifier against Belgium in March.
Zeca'a addition to the Galanolefki will add another option to the defensive midfield position, a position where Greece has limited options. Currently, only Samaris, Tziolis, and Maniatis are true defensive midfielders. Samaris has received little playing time at Benfica and the latter two have recently changed to new clubs where they hope to re-find their form.
