Mike James hit the game winning shot with 0.9 seconds remaining as Panathinaikos came back to defeat UNICS Kazan 83-82 in the Euroleague. The win keeps Panathinaikos well in the hunt for fourth place and home court advantage in the playoffs.
In a game that seemed to be lost for Panathinaikos, the Trifylli pulled off a late fourth quarter comeback to record a victory over UNICS Kazan at the OAKA Nick Galis Hall. The hosts, who played an overall poor game, fell behind by ten points (52-62) to start the fourth quarter but managed to bring the game on level terms at 65-65. The visitors regained a 6 point advantage (63-73) with 3 minutes remaining before Singleton's important shots from behind the arch brought the game to an 80-80 stalemate.
UNICS had possession with 14 seconds remaining and were sent to the free throw line where Williams made both attempts, giving the visitors an 80-82 lead. However, Panathinaikos, who trailed for most of the game, had the final word as James’ three pointer with 0.9 seconds remaining stunned UNICS Kazan giving Panathinaikos the 83-82 victory.
Bourousis led the Prasini with 15 points while Singleton scored all 14 points of his points in the second half (8 rebounds). Rivers added 13 points and both Gabriel and Gentile each finished the game with 10-points. Calathes had another frustrating game as he only scored 5 points (2/8 from the field). The hero, James, had a cold game (1/6) before scoring the game winning shot.
Panathinaikos remained 5th in the Euroleague standings with a 14-9 record and trail fourth placed Fenerbahce by two games (15-8). Panathinaikos will hope to finish fourth in the regular season which leads to home court advantage in the playoffs.
