Prasini Demolish Struggling Veria
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 23
|Panathinaikos||5 - 0||Veria|
|Berg (p) 18', (p) 39', 41'
Marcus Berg scored a first-half hat-trick as Panathinaikos went on another goal blitz to thump lowly SuperLeague rivals Veria 5-0 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium in Saturday’s late match.
Sweden striker Berg was in red hot form, netting in the 18th, 39th, and 41st minutes - two of which were penalties, while also providing two assists for the other goals scored by Viktor Klonaridis (21) and Lucas Villafanez (57).
The Greens were a class above their struggling opponents from the first minute to the last in an incredibly one-sided game, and had it not been for more profligacy from the home side Veria may have been on the wrong end of a more embarrassing defeat.
Bergs treble saw him move clear at the top of the goalscoring standings with 16 strikes.
As it was, only one goal was added in the second half and the home fans left the stadium in jubilant mood with their team moving up to third spot in the table with 41 points, just three adrift of second-placed Panionios.
The Trifylli may be overtaken again by PAOK depending on the outcome of Sunday’s much-anticipated derby clash between the Dikefalos tou Vorra and leaders Olympiacos at the Toumba stadium.
