Thuram Kills Off Asteras Again
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 23
|Asteras Tripolis||1 - 2||Kerkyra|
|Mazza 38'||Thuram 70', 83'|
Kerkyra gave their survival hopes a massive boost with a stunning comeback victory over fellow strugglers Asteras Tripolis in an enthralling SuperLeague Matchday 23 clash on Sunday. Like in their previous encounter this season, it was Thuram who netted two goals to lead Kerkyra to victory.
The Arcadians, who have endured a woeful campaign which could realistically end in relegation if results do not improve, actually started well and took the lead through Argentine midfielder Pablo Mazza’s 38th minute strike.
But the hosts’ tempo dropped mid-way through the second half, allowing the visitors back into the game, with Brazilian forward Thuram taking full advantage to net an equaliser in the 69th minute.
The momentum thereafter was clearly with the more attack-minded visiting side and Thuram was on target again seven minutes from time to clinch what seemed an unlikely victory on the evidence of the first half.
As a result, Kerkyra moved 11 points clear of the relegation places in 11th place while Tripolis are down in 13th (have lost 7 in a row in all competitions), just five points clear of the drop zone.
