Vasilis Vouzas...2 Defeats in 85 Matches
On Monday, Olympiacos sacked manager Paulo Bento and Olympiacos U-20 coach Vasilis Vouzas will be the club’s interim manager.
Vasilis Vouzas will look to lead Olympiacos during a difficult time period for the club after the sacking of coach Paulo Bento. In addition to the managerial switch, which is always a tricky transitional period for any team, Olympiacos have seen their 13 point lead atop the Superleague standings cut to 6 points. The Erythrolefki have a difficult schedule ahead before the international break as they will face Besiktas over two-legs in the Europa League Round of 16 and will matchup against Atromitos and Panathinaikos (away) in the Superleague.
Vouzas has been in charge of Olympiacos’ U-20 team since November 2014 and his record is beyond impressive. In his 85 matches in league play, Olympiacos’ U-20 team has only suffered TWO defeats under Vouzas while having won the league titles in 2015 and 2016. Vouzas also has developed players that have recently been added to Olympiacos’ first team including Manthatis, Androutsos, Retsos, Tsimikas (on loan at Esbjerg), and Nikolaou.
Vouzas, who is a former player of Olympiacos, will have by side his two other former Olympiacos players in Ariel Ibagaza and Tasos Pantos as assistant managers. Alekos Rantos will return as the goalkeeper coach while Christos Mourikis will be the club’s fitness coach.
Despite his impressive record, Vouzas will be Olympiacos’ interim manager until the club appoints a permanent manager. It is unsure how long Vouzas will be in charge, however it is very likely he will lead the side when they host Besiktas in the Europa League and Atromitos in league play.
The first names that are being discussed as the club's new coach include former Olympiacos manager Michel and former Villarreal coach Marcelino.
