Olympiacos “Secure” First Place With Derby Win

Olympiacos “secured” first place in the Greek A1 Water Polo League regular season by defeating Vouliagmeni 7-10  in today’s derby.

Vouliagmeni got off to a strong start in today’s Greek A1 Water Polo League derby against Olympiacos by taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. However, the Erythrolefki responded in the second and third periods to gain a comfortable lead which would give them victory in the end.

The second period saw Olympiacos bring the match level by halftime (5-5) and a dominating third period, where Olympiacos outscored their opponents 0-4, proved to be decisive in the end.

Gennidounias led the visitors with 4 goals while Mourikis added three goals. Vouliagmeni had six different scorers on the day with Gouvis finding the back of the net on two occasions.

The win keeps Olympiacos perfect after 18 games in this year’s Greek Water Polo League as they lead second placed Vouliagmeni by 8 points in the standings with four games to play.
