The Olympiacos Women’s Water Polo team advanced to the LEN Euroleague Final-4 for the third straight season after a thrilling win over Padova that ended 11-8 in penalties.
For a third consecutive season, the Olympiacos Women’s Water Polo team will be present at the Euroleague Final-4. The ladies progressed past Padova in what was a thrilling second leg quarterfinal match in Greece (first leg ended 10-10).
Olympiacos took a 5-4 lead into halftime and with the scores at 7-6 in favor of the Greek side, Padova took their first lead at 7-8. However, a goal from Emmola with 2:30 minutes remaining sent the game into a penalty shootout (8-8).
Despite Olympiacos getting off to a shaky start in the shootout (Plevritou missed her first shot), Dario’s failed attempt for the Italian side brought the game back on level terms (10-10). Eleftheriadou then missed for the hosts but Diamantopoulo kept the scores level with a big save before Smit gave Olympiacos the lead at 11-10. In a due or due attempt for Padova Savioli shot off target, giving Olympiacos the win and a place in the Euroleague Final-4.
Olympiacos will look to lift the European Title for the second time in three years at the Final-4 tournament on April 28-29th. Last season, the Erythrolefki finished fourth in the competition.
