Trikala Down Aris, Lamia and Apollon Smyrnis Pull Further Ahead

Aris suffered a 1-0 defeat to Trikala and are now six points off the pace for promotion as Lamia came back to defeat Chania. Apollon Smyrnis inched closer to the Superleague with an easy 4-1 win over Aiginiakos while OFI came away with a difficult 1-0 victory over Kallithea. Trikala took down another promotion contender in the Football League, defeating Aris 1-0 at home. The only goal of the game came in the 34th minute through Balboa. Trikala had a golden chance to put the game away in the second half, however Giannitsanis was unable to convert from the penalty spot in the 58th minute. Aris were given a lifeline when Mumim was sent off in the 68th minute however, four minutes later Tavlaridis would see a second yellow and Aris lost their man advantage. The result keeps Aris six points off of a promotion place, behind second placed Lamia, while Trikala sit fifth with 43 points. Highlights can be found here...
Apollon Smyrnis continued their dominance in the Football League by easily defeating Aiginiakos 4-1. Diamantopoulos opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Zguri equalized for Aiginiakos on 36 minutes. However, Apollon took a two goal lead into the halftime break with Siatravanis and Albanis finding the back of the net for the hosts. The match was put to bed midway through the second half with Bartoloni’s goal as Apollon Smyrnis increased their lead to 3 points ahead of second placed Lamia and 9 points clear of third placed Aris.
Lamia returned to winning ways with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Chania at home. The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute with Stamatis’ goal however two minutes later, Vasiliou was sent off with a second yellow card, leaving Chania with 10-men for the remainder of the game. The hosts wasted no time to pull level when in the 26th minute, they were awarded a penalty which was successfully converted by Vasilogianis. The comeback was completed in the 50th minute with Ferfelis’ goal as Lamia increased their advantage over third placed Aris back to six points. Highlights can be found here...
OFI had a difficult time against Kallithea but managed to squeeze out a 1-0 win in Irakleio. Manos’ 49th minute goal separated the sides at the final whistle. Kallithea came inches away from stealing a point but the woodwork denied them at the end. OFI sit 4th in the standings, 11 points behind Lamia while Kallithea remain 4 points clear of the relegation zone.
In other action, Kalloni earned another point in their fight for safety, playing to a goalless draw at home to Sparti, while Acharnaikos and Panegialios also finished goalless. Kissamikos gained more breathing room from the drop zone with a 2-1 win over Anagennisi Karditsas. Tzerkezos was the hero for the Cretan side who moved one point ahead of their opponents into 11th spot in the standings. Finally, two goals in the final 12 minutes gave Panserraikos a 2-1 comeback victory over Agrotikos Asteras.
Panelefsiniakos were awarded a much needed three points over Panthrakikos as they continue to sit bottom of the table.
