Greens Gun Down Atromitos to Move Third
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 29
|Panthinaikos||1 - 0||Atromitos|
Panathinaikos’ strong finish to the season continued on Sunday as the Greens overcame Atromitos 1-0 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis’ stadium to take advantage of Panionios defeat at Kerkyra to move into third place.
Marinos Ouzounidis’ team claimed all three-points thanks to Sweden forward Guillermo Molins’ solitary late strike four minutes from time - a result which moved the Trifili up to third spot behind PAOK.
Panathinaikos, who showed they are in tip top shape ahead of their visit to the Toumba to face PAOK on Thursday for the second leg of their Greek Cup semi-final tie, can still be overtaken by AEK and will be keen to finish as high as possible to put themselves in a good starting position ahead of the playoffs.
It was not as difficult a night as the tight scoreline suggested for the Greens at their ‘Leoforos’ home, as the hosts wasted several good opportunities to take the lead before their eventually scored via Molins.
