Next season’s Greek second division will begin on the weekend of September 8-9, 2018. The decision was announced after Friday’s Football League Board of Directors meeting. In addition to next season’s start date, other topics were discussed and finalized in regards to licensing and eligibility of clubs to participate in the second tier.

In recent seasons, the Football League has been plagued by delayed season kick offs due to various reasons (mostly economic) and the organizing body will hope this season will begin as planned in early September.

Next season’s Football League will consist of 16 teams as opposed to the current 18 teams. Six teams will be relegated from the league this season while only four teams will move up from the Gamma Ethniki at the end of this season. Iraklis and NFC Volos have already been promoted to the 2018/19 Football League while Veria, Acharnaikos, Panegialios, Kallithea, and Panserraikos have been mathematically demoted to the third division.
