A message from the captain: “We will fight until the end like Greeks”
Greece co-captain, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, sent a message via Facebook to the Greek fans before the Ethniki’s second leg matchup against Croatia.
The Borussia Dortmund man sent a fighting message via Facebook in light of Greece’s second leg clash against Croatia on Sunday, where the Ethniki will look to pull of a historic comeback and overturn their 4-1 first leg defeat. The hope is that his message will be translated on the pitch and not remain as simple words in the social media world.
Although the likelihood of a miracle comeback remains minimal, the players of Greece are determined to play for the best possible result (a win) and whatever happens from there, will be seen in the 90 minutes. The Greek co-captain and Thursday’s scorer, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, said that he and his teammates will fight until the end like Greeks and play for the team’s and country's prestige.
Papastathopoulos’ Facebook message can be seen here.
“Whatever the goal is, big or small, it is always important for the history of our country and the value of the team. In this difficult time for our national team, it is important that all of us remain together and not to destroy what we have built thus far: to become a strong team once again and to gain respect from all. This not only concerns us, but all Greeks. Our goal now is to give it our all and whatever we manage in the end, we must be sure that we fought as only the Greeks know.”
