AEK sack Manolopoulos before derby with Olympiacos
AEK BC have sacked coach Sotiris Manolopoulos after the club produced another troubling display during midweek action in the FIBA Champions League.
Manolopoulos was informed of AEK’s decision on Thursday and all that awaits is the official announcement from the club itself. AEK have been in poor-form as of late having lost to Lavrio over the weekend in the Greek Basket League and to Bayreuth in Germany in Wednesday’s FIBA Champions League action. The poor spell of form forced the administration to part ways with Manolopoulos before Sunday’s derby against Olympiacos.
The Greek manger did, however, lead the Kitrinomavri to a shocking upset of Panathinaikos in the semi-finals of the Greek Cup where AEK will now contest there first Cup title since 2001.
Manolopoulos took over AEK nine months ago for Jure Zdovc. The first rumors as to who will be Manolopoulos’ successor include Soulis Markopoulos and Elia Zouro.
