AEK’s Playoff Momentum Cut Short by Panthers
GREEK superleague playoffs - MATCHDAY 2
|AEK||0 - 1||Panionios|
Panionios shocked AEK at the OAKA Stadium coming away with a 0-1 win in Wednesday’s matchday 2 Superleague Playoff fixture. AEK’s defeat comes after a stunning win in Thessaloniki against PAOK in matchday 1.
Yesil’s early strike gave Panionios a shocking victory over the Enosis at the OAKA stadium to temporarily go top of the Playoff standings. The result is a massive blow to AEK, who earned a big win on the road against PAOK in matchday 1, a result that saw them sit first in the standings after the first round of games.
Panionios’ early goal surely troubled the hosts as they could not find the display that led them to victory over PAOK. The Kitrinomavri struggled to create chances in the 90 minutes of play (especially in the first half), but did come inches away from salvaging a point when Simoes was denied by the woodwork.
The two teams will now await the result from the other playoff fixture between Panathinaikos and PAOK as everything remains completely open in the playoff standings.
