AEK’s possible opponents in the Europa League Round of 32
AGONAsport.com looks at AEK’s possible opponents in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32.
With a goalless draw away to Austria Wien on the final matchday of group play in the UEFA Europe League, AEK claimed second spot in Group D and booked their ticket to the knockout stages of the competition. The Enosis will join 31 other sides in Monday’s Round of 32 draw.
The draw, which will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM (local Greek time) in Nyon, will consist of the 12 Europa League group winners, 12 Europa League group runner-ups, and the eight third placed teams from the UEFA Champions League group stages. The 32 participants will be separated into seeded and unseeded teams with the seeded teams scheduled to play their second leg fixture at home.
The seeded teams will consist of the 12 Europa League group winner and the four best 3rd placed teams from the UEFA Champions League group stages while the unseeded teams will consist of the 12 Europa League runner-ups and the remaining UEFA Champions League 3rd placed teams. As the runner-up of Group D, AEK will be unseeded in the draw.
One seeded team will be paired with one unseeded team to form the 16 knockout pairs. Teams from the same group cannot play one another (in AEK’s case, AC Milan) while teams from the same nation cannot be drawn together. The first leg matches will be hosted by the unseeded teams on February 15th and the return leg will be held one week later on February 22nd.
