Coming into this fixture, AEL held a 2:1 aggregate lead following the victory in Ioannina in the first leg, but PAS Giannina showed character to win the return by the same score and force extra time. However, AEL scored two in the extra frame to emerge triumphant.
In the box seat, the hosts started the match the better side. Croatian forward Sandi Krizman gifted AEL a previous lead on the night, but PAS Giannina forward Pedro Conde made it a 1:1 game before the half-time whistle blew.
Requiring a second marker to give themselves a chance, PAS’ players enjoyed 52% of possession in the second half and registered six shots on goal. Eventually, with just eight minutes remaining, they got the goal they craved. Conde was again the hero, beating AEL goalkeeper Mladen Bozovic.
Nevertheless, AEL would shade proceedings in extra time. Giannis Masouras, who scored twice in the first match, found the net to rule out penalties. Albanian Fatjon Andoni then converted a late spot kick, sealing AEL’s progress 5:3 on aggregate.
