After Printezis, Mantzaris renews contract with Olympiacos
One day after Georgios Printezis signed a new deal with Olympiacos, Vaggelis Mantzaris did the same and will continue with the Erythrolefki until 2020.
The Greek backbone in Olympiacos’ roster will remain the same next season after Vaggelis Mantzaris signed a new 3-year deal with the Erythrolefki on Friday. The 27-year old guard met with the Aggelopoulos brothers earlier today and the two sides decided to continue their partnership with Mantzaris signing a new contract until 2020. His total earnings will reach €2.5 million.
After a long meeting between the two sides, Mantzaris told reports “I have spent six years at the club and now I will spend nine, maybe even more. From the beginning, the presidents wanted me to stay and our common desire became a reality.” He went on to say that the team will bounce back next year after this season where no titles were won. He concluded stating that he is happy that he will continue with Vassili [Spanoulis] and Georgio [Printezis] and hope to continue what they have accomplished these last few seasons.
Both Mantzaris and Printezis were hot target free-agents at the end of the season with many clubs interested in signing the two players. However, Olympiacos will keep their two key players, along with other important names like Spanoulis and Papanikolaou, as the club looks to build a team with a Greek core in their fight to return to the top of both Greek and European basketball next season.
