Agia Sofia construction begins
The building of the Agia Sofia stadium has been a dream of every AEK fan for over a decade. Finally, things have been put into motion and construction work is underway as the Enosis will make their way back to Nea Filadelfia.
The construction of the new stadium officially began on Thursday after the agiasmo that took place on the stadium’s grounds where over 6.000 AEK fans were present, including many celebrities that support the Kitrinomavri, all members of AEK’s Board of Directors, and many of the club’s veterans.
The ceremony, which was broadcasted live on Facebook, began with a welcome from Andreas Dimatos and the Metropolitan Gavril of Nea Ionia and Filadelfia followed to begin the agiasmo liturgy. The President of AEK’s veterans, Stelios Serafidis, also appeared and in an emotional speech, stated that the building of Agia Sofia was a sign that AEK’s tough years away from Nea Filadelfia were over and the spark of the team’s return to glory has been re-ignited.
Finally, the club’s president Dimitris Melissanidis, who was the frontman of AEK’s efforts throughout the years to make this dream come true, stated that the “walls of Agia Sofia shall never fall again” and that bringing AEK back home was a duty towards the refugees that founded AEK 90 years ago.
