The Greek champions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Piraeus, which quickly diminished the Croatian champions’ hopes of winning the game. The Croatians, however, would respond by scoring three consecutive goals. Suddenly, Olympiacos’ 4-0 lead had vanished, and the score was 4-3 early in the third period.
Olympiacos would respond by scoring three consecutive goals themselves, to take a 7-3 lead and once again edge closer to victory. This trend would continue, as the Croatians would once again score three consecutive goals to make the score 7-6 with just over two minutes to go in the game. Although the Croatians kept fighting, Olympiacos’ Paulo Obradovic, a Dubrovnik native himself, would score a late goal to extend the lead for the Erythrolefki. The Croatians had no answers this time, as Olympiacos ultimately prevailed 8-6 to take the win.
The top scorers for Olympiacos were Fountoulis, Genidounias, and Obradovic, each with two goals. Gounas and Mourikis also contributed to the scoresheet with one goal each.
Olympiacos still sit at the top of Group A with 19 points after seven games. The next game for the Erythrolefki will be on February 7, as they will travel to Croatia for a rematch against Jug Dubrovnik.
