Antonis Fotsis: The Green 3-point machine
Antonis Fotsis concluded his fourth spell at Panathinaikos, ending a very successful professional career full of three pointers and titles. He has decided to continue his career with his first club Ilisiakos, who competes in the A’ ESAKE.
On Tuesday July 25th, Antonis Fotsis officially ended his fourth spell at Panathinaikos. Fotsis is strongly connected to Panathinaikos’ successes over the years as he has been apart of the club since 1997 in four different spells. Between these 4 spells, the veteran forward also played in the NBA for the Memphis Grizzlies (2001-2002), Real Madrid (2003-2005) and Dynamo Moscow (2011-2013).
Fotsis spent a total of 12 years at the Trifylli and his name has been linked with many of Panathinaikos’ titles over the years. Antonis Fotsis won 3 Euroleague titles with the Trifylli in 2000, 2009 and 2011, 10 Greek League titles, and 6 Greek Cup championships.
“Batman”, as he is nicknamed, has deservedly earned the title as one of the greatest shooters in the club's history. In the Euroleague, 70.1% of his shots from the field where 3-point attempts whereas in the Greek League his total shots from behind the arch were at 58.6%.
His statistics during his last spell speak for themselves as “Batman” went 134/209 from two-point attempts and 147/404 from three point attempts in the Euroleague, whereas in the Greek Basketball League, he went 73/120 from two-point attempts and 118/289 from three point attempts. One of his career highlights as a shooter was his impressive 6/6 from behind the arch in the fifth and final game of the 2011 Basket League Finals series against Olympiacos, helping Panathinaikos to the league title.
In total, the only season that Fotsis’ three-point statistics fell below 30% in the Basket League was in the 2002-03 season. His stats in the Greek League (below) are to envied.
In the Euroleague, the statistics are once again quite impressive during his stay with the Prasini. His performances peaked after he returned from the NBA, went 46.7% from 3-point attempts in the 2002/03 season, with his career best reaching an astonishing 50.6% during the 2014/15 season.
