AO Chania relegated to Gamma Ethniki
AO Chania have officially been relegated to the Greek third division after their appeal was denied by the Hellenic Football Federation.
AO Chania was deducted 33 points from this year’s Football League after playing the season without a “participation certificate.” The courts ruled a 33-point deduction to the Cretan side, which meant relegation for Chania and the club lodged an appeal to the federation. However, that appeal was denied on Wednesday officially sending the club down to the third division.
Chania avoided the drop by finishing 13th in last season's Football League with 38 points but will not avoid relegation due to off the pitch matters. Kissamikos, who also played in the second division and is a “neighbor” of Chania, have recently asked AO Chania to combine and form one club in a way to make both clubs stronger.
Chania’s place in the Football League will be taken by Kallithea, who finished 15th in last year’s Football League, and where mathematically relegated.
