Apollon comeback to take Cypriot Super Cup
Apollon took the first title of the season in Cyprus as they prevailed 2-1 over APOEL in Cypriot Super Cup.
APOEL opened the scoring just 9 minutes into the game with Giorgos Efraim, however Apollon responded by creating two important chances before half time. Things got more difficult in the second half for Apollon when Vasileiou was sent off with a second yellow card.
Despite playing with 10-men, Apollon found the equalizer just a few minutes later as APOEL’s goalkeeper Urko Pardo miscalculated Da Silva’s free kick. Andre Schembri completed the comeback minutes before the end for last year’s Cup champions, giving the first trophy of the season to the Limassol side.
Both teams will now turn their focus to the upcoming playoffs in the Champions and Europa Leagues, as APOEL face Slavia Prague and Apollon matchup against Midtjylland.
