Apollon hitman Almpanis close to AEK transfer
Newly crowned Greek champions AEK Athens are set to secure the signature of Christos Almpanis, after the Apollon Smyrnis forward turned down Olympiacos in favour of the Kitrinomavri.
23-year old Almpanis has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Super League minnows Apollon Smyrnis, scoring eight goals in 29 appearances including the winner against Olympiacos which secured Apollon’s safety in the Greek top flight. Both AEK and Olympiacos were eager to sign the forward, but according to reports in the media, Almpanis is focused on becoming an AEK player. Olympiacos even promised Almpanis a larger contract, however the striker declined the Thrylos’ offer, reinstating his desire to join AEK.
Almpanis is expected to sign a three-year contract with AEK, with the Enosis paying Apollon Smyrnis around 450,000 euros for the Greek’s services.
Born in Kalabka, Almpanis spent the majority of his youth career with Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg in Germany before joining Apollon Smyrnis in 2015. Almpanis also played for several Greek junior national teams.
