|Apollon Limassol||1 - 1||Anorthosis|
|Papoulis 60'||Douglao 12'|
Apollon Limassol came from behind to hold Anorthosis Famagusta to a 1:1 draw in the Cypriot First Division, as Fotis Papoulis’ second half equaliser saved the hosts.
The visitors were looking to keep a grip of first place of the Cypriot championship, but Apollon salvaged a point to stay in touch with the leading pack.
Anorthosis made the perfect start to the weekend’s biggest match, scoring within the opening eleven minutes. A perfect corner found the head of Brazilian defender Douglao, who planted an unchallenged attempt into the right corner. Antonio Jakolis had an ideal opportunity to get Apollon level in the first half, but he was denied by Anorthosis goalkeeper Ariel Harush at point blank range.
Searching for a potentially crucial second goal, Anorthosis had two fantastic chances to double the advantage immediately after half-time. Joao Victor’s sliding goalbound effort was blocked by an Apollon defender in the penalty area, before Carlitos hacked wide with only the goalkeeper to beat. Those misses proved to be crucial. Experienced Apollon captain Fotis Papoulis made the score 1:1 on 60 minutes, hammering a powerful shot into the net when clean through.
Apollon pressed for a winning goal in the final stages, however Anorthosis valiantly held on to the point. This draw means that Apollon stay in fourth place of the table, but they are only three points behind leaders AEK Larnaca with two matches in hand. Anorthosis are in third with 41 points, one more than Apollon.
