Panserraikos cruised past Ergotelis in their Group F opener for the 2017/18 Greek Cup group stages, defeating the Cretan side 2-0. Pozoglou opened the scoring with a great effort from a free kick in the 38th minute and three minutes after the restart, Gkourtsas successfully netted a spot kick to double his side's lead. The hosts finished with 10-men after Tsimikas saw a second yellow card, but his sending off did not affect the final result. Highlights here.
Newly promoted Football League side, Apollon Pontou, defeated Aiginiakos 0-1 on the road to begin their Greek cup campaign. The Thessaloniki side grabbed all three points with a late goal from Brito, who scored his first goal for the club in nine years. The Brazilian striker, who left Apollon Kalamarias (Apollon’ Pontou previous name) back in 2008, joined Atromitos for 10 seasons before returning back to the club this season. Apollon’s three points not only gives them leverage in Group B, but confidence for the season ahead as they look to return back to Greece’s top flight.
Xanthi took a big step towards the Greek Cup knockout stages after their 2-0 win over Panetolikos. Castro opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Triadis doubled the hosts’ lead at the one hour mark. The win puts Xanthi atop the group with Panserraikos after matchday 1 in Group F.
