After a 3-year absence, Apollon Smyrnis will play in Greece’s first football division, the Superleague. The Elafra Taxiarchia played to a goalless draw against Trikala and mathematically secured promotion. Apollon were the better side in the first half with Trikala balancing the game out in the second 45-minutes, but neither team could find the back of the net and the two teams shared the spoils.

After the final whistle, the home fans rushed onto the pitch and celebrated the club’s promotion with the players.

The result leaves Apollon Smyrnis 9-points clear of third placed Aris, who drew Lamia, leaving a difference that cannot be made up in the final three games (One of Apollon’s final three games is against Panthrakikos who have been removed from the league).
