Aris remained perfect in the Greek Football League after six rounds of play defeating AOX Kissamikos over the weekend. OFI were victorious in the Cretan derby over Ergotelis while Kallithea recorded their first win of the season.
Aris’ perfect start to the Football League season continued over the weekend after grabbing a narrow 1:0 victory over AOX Kissamikos. Bargan’s brilliant goal from a free-kick just before the halftime break separated the sides in an overall low-key match. The result moves Aris up to 18 points after six games and the Thessalonikis continue to lead the way in the Greek second division.
OFI came from behind to celebrate victory on the road in the Cretan derby over Ergotelis 2:4. The hosts took the lead in the 11th minute with Ndiaye, however OFI responded with three goals from Kouskounas (14), Martos (26), and Armiche (32) within 18 minutes to put the visitors ahead 1:3 into the break. Ergotelis showed some life when Stamatopoulos pulled one back in the 60th minute, but the game was put out of reach when Ogboe re-gave OFI a two-goal advantage 15 minutes before the end. OFI move up to second with 14 points, trailing the league leaders Aris by just four points while their local rivals continue to struggle with only 2 points from six matches.
Apollon Pontou’s fight for promotion took another blow as they played to a goalless draw away to Trikala. The Thessaloniki side now sit in sixth with 9 points while Trikala fell to 12th with six points.
Also on Monday, Kallithea celebrated their first win of the season after downing Panegialios 2:1. The hosts opened the scoring with Smyrlis in the 14th minute and Kokkoris pulled Panegialios level on 68 minutes. However, Kallithea had the last laugh as Junior netted the winner two minutes from full time, giving the Athenian club their first win of the season.
In other action, Karaiskakis continued their impressive run in the second division by defeating Anagennisi Karditsas 3:1 at home. 10-men Apollon Larissas added an important 3-points in their fight for safety by downing fellow relegation strugglers, Aiginiakos 1:0 while Veria also gained some breathing room from the relegation zone after defeating Sparti 1:0 in northern Greece
Panserraikos were awarded all three point against Acharnaikos, who have withdrawn from the league.
