Aris & Panachaiki return to winning ways, Victory for OFI despite problems

The top-3, Aris, Panachaiki, and OFI enjoyed comfortable wins over the weekend as fourth through sixth placed Trikala, Sparti, Karaiskakis were victorious on matchday 10. Doxa Dramas dropped more points in their fight for promotion after a goalless draw at home with Panegialios.
Aris returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2:0 win over city rivals Apollon Pontou. Platellas opened the scoring for the Kitrinomavri in the 14th minute to give Aris the 1:0 lead as things got worse for the visitors when Georgiadis was sent off with a second yellow card in the 35th minute. With a man down, Apollon failed to make their presence known on the pitch and a goal right before the halftime break from Dounis gave Aris the two-goal advantage. The hosts held their lead throughout the second half and returned to winning ways after two consecutive draws in League play. Aris lead the table with 26 points after 10 matches while Apollon Pontou sit back in eight with 14 points. Highlights can be found here.
Like Aris, second placed Panachaiki entered the new year with a victory, dispatching Apollon Larissas 2:1 on Sunday. The side from Patra enjoyed a two goal advantage at halftime after Eleftheriadis (29) and Moraitis (42) found the back of the net in the opening half. Tsiloulis pulled one back for the visitors with six minutes remaining (was sent off shortly after), but Panachaiki held their 2:1 advantage to move up to 23 points in the league standings, three behind leaders Aris. Apollon Larisas are just above the relegation zone in 12th with 12 points.
Despite facing troubling financial problems, OFI easily defeated AOX Kissamikos 3:0 in Irakleio. Manos scored twice within the first ten minutes (6, 9) to give the hosts an early 2:0 lead, which they held comfortable during the 90 minutes. With the result all but certain, Manos completed the hat-trick in the final minutes of play to give OFI the 3:0 victory. OFI, who came into the match with a 16-player squad (3 of them were goalies), sit third in the standings with 18 points as the future of the club remains in the air off the pitch.
In other action, Trikala continue to sit in fourth after defeating Veria 0:1 on the road while Sparti’s impressive campaign (are 5th) continued in the new year with their 1:0 win over Aiginiakos. Doxa Drama dropped more points after their goalless draw with Panegialios as Panserraikos and Anagennisi Karditsas also played to a draw with the Thessaly side equalizing in the fourth minute of stoppage time (1:1). Ergotelis look dommed for relegation after tasting another defeat over the weekend, falling to Karaiskakis 2:1 on the road.
Kallithea were awarded all three points against Acharnaikos, who have withdrawn from the league.
