Asteras Tripolis’ incredible run of form continued on Sunday as the Arcadians chalked up a fifth win in succession with a 3-1 away success at Apollon Smyrnis, while PAS Giannina and Lamia shared the spoils of a 1-1 draw.
Savvas Pantelidis’ in-form Asteras simply had too much firepower for struggling Apollon, as two goals from Greek striker Nikos Kaltsas (20, 80) and forward Michalis Manias (70) saw the Tripoli out fit home comfortably.
For Asteras, the win means they remain in sixth spot, and move to within one point of fifth-placed Panionios, while they are only eight points behind leaders Olympiacos.
Christos Alpanis got on the scoresheet for the home side, but his 51st-minute strike was merely a consolation for Zoran Vulic’s team, who remain third from bottom in the table.
|Pas Giannina||1 - 1||Lamia|
|Mavropanos 64'||Tsoukalos 79'|
Meanwhle in Ioannina, PAS were heading for what would have been a vital 1-0 home win over Lamia at the Zosimades Stadium, but substitute Nikos Tsoulakos struck 13 minutes from full-time to clinch a point for the visitors.
PAS defender Konstantinos Mavropanos opened the scoring for the home side after 64 minutes, but Tsoukalos’ leveller meant it was honours even in a tightly-contested matchday 14 encounter.
Giannis Petrakis’ PAS move on to 17 points but remain in ninth place, while Lamia move above Panathinaikos into 10th place with 16 points.
