Atalanta continue good form to defeat Apollon
UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E - MATCHDAY 3
|Atalanta||3 - 1||Apollon Limassol|
| Schembri 59'
Atalanta’s good form in the UEFA Europa League continued on Thursday as they defeated Apollon Limassol 3-1 in Italy.
After two consecutive draws against Lyon and Everton, Apollon tasted their first defeat in this year’s UEFA Europa League group stages after falling 3-1 on the road to Atalanta. The Cypriot side went down in the 12th minute when Ilicic found the back of the net, but 14 minutes after the restart, Apollon managed to pull level when Schembri turned in Jakoli’s cross with a powerful header.
The 1-1 scoreline was short lived as Petagna headed home Ilicic’s corner just five minutes later and the game was put out of reach in the 66th minute when Ilicic provided another assist, setting up Freuler who slotted the ball past Vale to give Atalanta the 3-1 win.
Atalanta lead the table with seven points with Lyon jumping into second place after their 1-2 win in England over Everton. Apollon are third with two points as Everton’s disappointing campaign sees them sit last in the group with one one point from three games.
