Atromitos go third after last gasp win at Tripoli
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 22
|Asteras Tripolis||0 - 1||Atromitos|
Atromitos moved third in the SuperLeague after clinching a late win over Asteras Tripolis on Saturday thanks to a late goal from Dimitris Chatziisaias, while Kerkyra lifted themselves out of the drop zone with a 2-0 home win over fellow strugglers Apollon Smyrni.
After a balanced first half at the Theodoros Kolokotronis stadium in Tripoli, Damir Canadi’s impressive Atromitos team were the more adventurous after half-time, and the Peristeri club’s efforts were rewarded with Chatziisaias’ buzzer-beater goal in the first minute of added time.
That earned Atromitos a vital three-point haul which lifted the club into third place above Olympiacos, who host Panionios at the Georgios Karaiskakis on Sunday.
|Kerkyra||2 - 0||Apollon Smyrnis|
Elsewhere, a real relegation six-pointer took place between Kerkyra and Apollon on Corfu and it was the home side who came out deservedly on top to win 2-0.
Goals from Martin Rolle (40) and Denis Epstein (68) did the damage for Kerkyra, who took all three points - a result which allowed them to move out of the bottom two.
Kerkyra, who now occupy 14th place, are just two points clear of today’s opponents Apollon, and who suspects the two may trade places a few more times between now and the end of the season.
