Atromitos salvage a point in Lamia as title bid starts to fade
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 20
|Lamia||1 - 1||Atromitos|
|Piti 55'||Diguiny 70'|
SuperLeague title outsiders Atromitos dropped more points by slipping to a poor 1-1 draw at struggling Lamia on Sunday, while Levadiakos pushed themselves further into mid-table safety with a 2-0 home win over lowly Kerkyra.
Atromitos, who set the SuperLeague alight with their blistering early season form, appear to be fading badly, with his matchday 20 clash another example of Damir Canadi’s team unable to keep pace with the top three of PAOK, Olympiacos and AEK.
Spanish forward Piti, whose full name is Francisco Medina Luna, gave the home side a 55th-minute lead at the Lamia Municipal Stadium, and things did not seem to be going Atromitos way as the Peristeri club struggled to create scoring chances.
But they were thrown a lifeline after 65 minutes when home forward Yevhen Budnik was sent off after collecting a second yellow card.
Atromitos began to exert more pressure on Lamia with the numerical advantage telling as the half wore on, and the visitors finally pulled level 20 minutes from full-time through French striker Nicolas Diguiny.
The result leaves Atromitos on 28 points, eight points adrift of leaders PAOK with a third of the season to go.
|Levadiakos||2 - 0||Kerkyra|
Meanwhile in Livadeia, Levadiakos secured three vital points in their bid to stay away from the possibility of being sucked into the relegation battle thanks to a 2-0 home success against Kerkyra.
Second half goals from Marko Markovski (49) and striker Petros Giankoumakis (66) did the damage for Jose Anigo’s Levadiakos side, who propelled themselves up to ninth in the standings, a full 10 points clear of the drop zone.
Things are no looking too bright for Kerkyra, however, with Giannis Matzourakis’ team remaining second rom bottom with 14 points from 20 matches.
