Olympiacos were handed a shock loss in Germany on Thursday night as Bamberg claimed a major upset in the EuroLeague…
An impressive fourth quarter powered Brose Bamberg to a shock win over Olympiacos in the EuroLeague on Thursday night. A 17-7 run in the final frame eventually powered the German side to a narrow 67-65 win at the Brose Arena.
Dorell Wright scored 20 points to play a vital role in his side’s impressive comeback victory over Olympiacos, who were limited to just 25 points in the second half. Meanwhile, former Greek international, Nikos Zisis, notched 6 points for the German side.
Georgios Printezis led Olympiacos with 12 points as he returned to action despite leaving the derby clash with AEK early due to injury; however, Nikola Milutinov was ruled out of the clash in Germany due to an injury he picked up in the loss to AEK.
Despite a low-scoring first quarter, Olympiacos looked on pace for a result by half time as the Piraeus giants led 40-32 after the first two quarters.
Another tight frame saw both teams match each other at both ends of the court in the quarter as Olympiacos held onto their eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
That would be the point that Bamberg would turn the game on its head. Former Greek National Team coach, Andrea, Tinchieri, certainly motivated his side to start the final frame as Bamberg surged to a 13-0 run in the final frame to erase the Olympiacos deficit and assume control of the contest before closing out a narrow victory in front of their home crowd.
The loss sees Olympiacos fall to 9-3 on the season, while Bamberg improved to 6-6 with the win.
Olympiacos face a tough task next week as the Piraeus giants lock horns with league leaders CSKA Moscow, while Bamberg hit the road to face Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania.
