Dimitris Diamantakos has signed a contract until 2020 with German 2. Bundesliga side Bochum after being released by his former club Karlsruher. The Greek forward could not help his former side avoid relegation to the German third division and the club was forced to release the player.
The 24-year old wasted no time to find a new team and he will stay put in the German second division as he put together some good displays with Karlsruhe, scoring 14 goals in 50 appearances over a two year span. As a matter a fact, his first goal for Karlsruher came against Bochum in November 2015. Diamantakos has been a regular in Greece's call-ups for both the Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup qualifying campaigns.
Bochum, who look to fight for promotion to the Bundesliga, have housed a Greek player in the past in Fanis Gekas. The former Greece international played at Bochum on loan from Panathinaikos for the 2006/07 season and shocked the German top flight, finishing as the league's top scorer with 20 goals in 32 appearances.
Currently, Greece’s young prospect Vaggelis Pavlidis plays at Bochum. The 18-year old striker starred with the club’s youth teams and Greece’s youth national teams and has made his way up to Bochum’s first team where he will be joined by Dimitris Diamantakos.
