PAOK celebrated a big 2-3 win on the road against Olympiacos, in what was a thrilling match, to break the Erythrolefki’s home court advantage and take a 2-1 lead in the Greek Volley League Finals series.
The hosts got off to a stronger start to win the first set 25-20. However, PAOK responded in a closely contested second set as two mistakes from the hosts, with the scores tied at 23-23, allowed PAOK to bring the match on level terms at 1-1.
The visitors had the momentum and kept a steady lead in the third set which they went on to win 22-25 and pulled ahead in the match 2-1 set. In the fourth set, Fragkos’ powerful and well-placed serves were too difficult for the PAOK players to handle and that led the way for the Erythrolefki to send the match into a tiebreaker set, winning the fourth set rather easily 25-20.
In the tiebreaker set, PAOK took the early lead and increased it to three points, pulling ahead 11-14. Two big points from Olympiacos’ best player on the night, Agamez, brought them within one, 13-14, however Takouridis sealed the deal for the visitors to give them a big win on the road and the 2-1 series lead.
The Dikefalos tou Vora will now look to finish the job in game 4 in Thessaloniki with hopes of clinching their third straight Greek Volley League Title. Game four is scheduled for Thursday, May 4.
